About the painting:

I don’t know exactly why, but I started painting individual words as I heard them come out of my stereo. After a while, I realized that most songs are about breakups, but could also be about death in a way. The words I was picking were laden with deeper meaning for me.

My sister in law Sara came over right after I finished this first one, and I told her that “this was either the best or worst artwork I’d ever done.” She looked it and immediately started to cry, and I knew I’d really communicated in a way that I’d never done before. I decided in that moment to keep exploring this.
